The Exhibition of the “Ancient Camellias of Lucca” is one of the most important in Europe.
It takes place every year in March, an ideal time of the year to come and visit Tuscany considering the pleasant climate and also for the fact that it falls in low season.
The Exhibition followes the “Path of the Camellias”, a tour through the villages of Pieve and S. Andrea di Compito, with guided visits of the gardens of the Old Villas which display their centuries old cammellia trees and to the small tea plantation on the village hilltop, unique in Italy (The camellia is a tea plant). Along the route, through the streets of the villages and in the Villas you’ll find the Flower and tea exhibitions, plus examples of tea production, art exhibitions, concerts and much more.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Lucca and accommodation at the Hotel. City tour of Lucca and dinner in the Hotel.
Day 2
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a day entirely dedicated to visiting the Camellia Exhibition. During the visit you will also have access to the gardens of some villas in the area, true architectural beauties, such as Villa Borrini, Villa Giovannetti, Villa Torregrossa and Villa Orsi where it is possible to take part in a Tea Ceremony, a Japanese ritual over 1500 years old. On request there is also the possibility to have a light lunch with typical local products.
Day 3
After breakfast, you will visit Villa Reale, the summer residence of Elisa Bonaparte, Napoleon's sister. This is one of the most beautiful parks in Tuscany.
